I have been knitting - a lot actually, but many of the projects I can’t share, and one of them I gifted without taking photos. I’d meant to get one of the mom-to-be in the shawl, but forgot. A good friend at work is due to have her baby in the next week or so, and while I’ve been knitting for him like crazy, I also wanted to make her a prayer shawl of sorts - it was a tough pregnancy, very high-risk (ultrasounds weekly throughout), and a health condition she has means the birth could be rough as well. I wanted to share prayers for her to have a safe, easy delivery free of complications.
There is what remains of the yarn I used - Handmaiden Kasbah - and below is a shot of the similar shawl I’d started for myself.
The pattern is simply a bias shawl pattern - Jessi and I both picked up the little card when we were at Knitch - and when they mention that it blocks out MUCH larger, they are not kidding! I have to say I’ll be frogging mine - the anal girl in me who really needs things to be symmetrical is just not able to handle the way it drapes with the endings being different. That could of course, be resolved by grafting in the middle, but the idea of that particular pattern choice was easy, mindless knitting while working or watching hockey, and the knowledge of future grafting is enough to make it less palatable to me!
I’ve also finished a few projects for friends, but I’m not showing the whole things until I send them out, which won’t be until I get paid, sadly. I believe my niece has better saving habits than I do, so when I forget how to add and subtract, I leave myself in a very bad place. Anyhow.. here are a few teasers!
You may recognize that yarn - it’s only been through about 900 iterations. And I actually thought I’d lost it - I didn’t share the story of my lovely experience with Canadian security when leaving my conference, and I won’t now - Suffice to say, you can bring your needles INTO Canada without any issue or fanfare, it’s getting them OUT that can be a challenge! At any rate, I’d thought this project was one that I had to ditch lacking any further bag to check it in, but was simply so traumatized by my experience that I THOUGHT I had, and happy to find out otherwise!
That is some Alchemy Yarns Wabi Sabi, and it’s wonderfully squishy, soft and silky!
And THIS one is a Bamboo from Wisdom Yarns that is very pretty - and VERY slippery!
I also got some wonderful packages!
Check out the sheer cute-ness of this little bag!
It’s not so little when it stretches out with things inside it! Heather sent it to me as a just because and thank you for hosting swaps - it was the first and only and I just love it! Look at the adorable little flower (oh my, the icord)
She also included these oh-so-very-me stitch markers -
Aren’t they adorable?
And last, but certainly not least, I received another package from my spectacular pal in the Summer of Yarn Love swap -
Aren’t those dishcloths adorable? And the yarn you see there is, indeed, Malabrigo!
And with that much picture heavy post, I’ll leave you now - but I really really will post winners from the last contest, I just keep forgetting and have been working so many projects that I’ve not really pondered Jessi’s yarn in a while; but I will!
Ooh, one question though. I met a really great guy at my conference (get no thoughts, he is, as is almost always the case when I meet a great guy, married). He lives in Canada, so for once, I know someone besides my family I can actually knit cold-weather things for! Anyone have suggestions on Boy Scarf Patterns? I’m thinking I will use a deep navy Noro Cash Iroha, because it’s one of the few noro yarns I can stand to touch, and I really think it’s lovely and soft (amazing, they can do that, too).
